UB HEALS (Homeless health, Education, Awareness, and Leadership in Street medicine) is a street medicine outreach initiative of the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (JSMBS) with a mission to increase healthcare access for Buffalo's unhoused population while shaping medical education.
As a student-led program, we address the unique medical and psychosocial needs of individuals experiencing homelessness, offering medical students a meaningful and hands-on educational experience while providing essential care for those in need.
JSMBS medical students and faculty conduct direct street outreach to connect the unhoused community with essential healthcare services and supplies. By fostering trust and building key relationships, UB HEALS makes a lasting positive impact on healthcare for this underserved population in Buffalo, NY.
